    Description

William Hill is truly a giant in the world of sports betting. Founded in 1934, they have 1,500 shops in the UK and 300,000 customers worldwide. All this pedigree and experience have gone into making an exceptionally usable sports betting website.

The initial appearance of the website is very businesslike. This could be intimidating for a new customer, but most users will welcome the ease with which you can sign up and place a large range of bets, all at reasonable odds.

Signing up is a simple process. It took me just five minutes to sign up, make a deposit, and receive the confirmation email. This is a promising start, pointing to the simplicity and ease of use of the website.

Deposits can be made by a variety of methods including credit card, Western Union and bank transfer. There are no charges from William Hill, although they will not pay charges for you which seems a bit mean in the case of large deposits. Furthermore, unlike many US-based sportsbooks there are no bonuses for deposits and reloads.

However, the fact that the initial deposit need only be £2 demonstrates a laid-back approach, for which further evidence is the 1p minimum online bet and the £5 minimum bet by telephone. William Hill’s size can allow them to be relaxed on this kind of matter.

Unfortunately, their attitude to customer service also seems a bit too laid back. Although they claim to have representatives in twelve tongues, many of these were unavailable. It took three telephone calls to get through to an adviser, who wasn’t able to supply simple information about when the site was founded and whether there was a deposit bonus. The support in Spanish, interestingly, was a lot stronger than in English. The online chat representatives are reasonably knowledgeable, but the email representatives did not respond to my query at all, even though you have to answer an inquisition in order to be able to get in contact with them.

These gripes aside, however, William Hill is a truly excellent website. Nowhere will you find such a variety of bets available, and the odds are generally at least as good as William Hill’s major rivals. The odds are also updated commendably quickly, and there is a useful latest results section on the home page.

The accounts page is easy to use, although it does not function as a pop-up box which can be irritating if you want to check your account while you are considering placing a particular bet.

The process for making a withdrawal is simple and quick, although with such a variety of bets, all at the right price (some rival websites occasionally give mistakenly generous odds on some minor events), and all easy to place, one suspects that few customers will end up taking money of William Hill in the long run. Their margin tends to vary between about 11% and 14%.

William Hill is focused mainly on UK horse-racing customers, but a wide range of British and American sports, and foreign languages, means that all types of bettors should be equally at home on this website, which is fast, easy-to-use, expansive and, therefore, recommended. William Hill is an industry leader, and deservedly so.
